New Jersey state senator says Americans owed an explanation or action on drones

New Jersey state Sen. Doug Steinhardt called for more information on the drones circling the skies before “public panic” sets in.

Steinhardt’s interview on Fox News’s Fox and Friends Wednesday came after weekslong sightings of car-sized drones all over the state, notably in Bedminster, where Gov. Phil Murphy (D-NJ) lives and President-elect Donald Trump’s golf course is located. Drones have also been detected over the Picatinny military base. Local law enforcement and the FBI have assured the public that these are not a threat but have not publicized their origins.

“From my perspective, if they are American assets, if they’re American military, if they’re American drones, then I think we owe American people answers or explanations,” Steinhardt said. “But if they’re not, if they’re not American made, if they’re not American drones, then I think we owe the American people action. If no one is saying it, I’ll be the first one to say it: If these are not American assets, then we need to get our assets into the air and blow one of these things out of the sky. Quite frankly, we are United States of America, and we need to do a better job here.”

According to Steinhardt, residents are reporting daily drone activity. The state’s role as a gateway state with its ports heightens the risk of a foreign threat. As a result, the state lawmakers are joining others in calling for a special legislative session to question the FBI and the governor.

“The absence of misinformation, I think, breeds all sorts of things. It breeds conspiracy theories. It breeds misinformation. And right now, it’s creating a public panic because no one is coming forward and giving people the answers that they need,” Steinhardt said. “Simply saying, ‘we don’t know,’ in 2024 in the United States of America is just unacceptable.”

In the meantime, the Federal Aviation Administration temporarily banned drones from the airspace above the military base and Trump’s golf resort. There haven’t been any attempts to shoot these drones down.
