On March 13, 2025, American Airlines Flight 1006, a Boeing 737-800, experienced engine issues shortly after departing Colorado Springs Airport. The flight, which was headed to Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport, was diverted to Denver International Airport about 20 minutes into the journey. The plane landed safely at around 5:15 p.m. local time after the crew reported engine vibrations. However, one engine caught fire while taxiing to the gate.

Passengers were evacuated using emergency slides and a jet bridge, with all 172 passengers and six crew members exiting safely. Twelve individuals were taken to the hospital with minor injuries, and thick black smoke was visible as the plane’s engine burned on the tarmac. Videos showed airport staff working to extinguish the flames.

American Airlines praised the crew, airport staff, and first responders for their quick actions. The airline arranged a replacement aircraft to continue the passengers’ journey to Dallas-Fort Worth. The FAA is investigating the incident.

This event follows another diversion on February 23, 2025, when Flight 292 from New York to New Delhi was rerouted to Rome due to a bomb threat, which was later determined to be a hoax. Despite the scare, all passengers on both flights landed safely.
